There is perhaps no mascot in the league more beloved than Chessy, the rootin’ tootin’ cowboy of Calico Springs. Already a beloved “Old West” tourist stop, Calico Springs cashed in on that history when they joined the league and used the chestnut-collared longspur (a bird that frequents the area around the old west saloon in town) as their mascot. With two championships to their name, and some of the biggest names in the league, the Longspurs are seemingly always in contention to win it all, assuming they can get past the Kingbirds that is.

In Calico Springs, they use a chestnut-collared longspur as their mascot. The chestnut-collared longspur is found throughout the Great Plains of the US. The folks of Calico Springs have affectionately dubbed their cowboy-inspired mascot “Chessy.”
